By Aly Comingore (Contact)
FOLKIES WHO PLAY TOGETHER, STAY TOGETHER: Santa Barbara’s resident cheerleader for singer-songwriters has outdone herself yet again. This Tuesday, September 22, Christina Grimm brings—and plays along with—a host of folk musicians from around the county for a special all-ages night of music at SOhO (1221 State St.). On board for the night are Erland & The Family, featuring singer-songwriter Erland Wanberg on lead vocals and guitars, Khas Modissette on backup vocals, Nathan Modissette on bass, and Erich Riedl on drums, Goleta songwriter Rich Phillips, Grammy-award nominated songwriter and pop powerhouse Alissa Moreno, and Grimm herself. Two New Songs: Tea Fire & Light
-
February 2, 2009
I just recorded a demo of a new song - Thin Line - about my experience with the Montecito Tea Fire last November. Even though I did not suffer a loss like many other people in this area, I saw the flames headed toward my house at the start and am shocked every day at the devastation suffered by our beautiful community. I am offering this song as a free download in the hopes that it will contribute to the healing process.
The other new song - Leave a Light - was prompted by the story of a woman political prisoner, but I think it also applies to many other situations of longing for "home" in the midst of apparent hopelessness.
These two songs will eventually be fully produced and put on my next CD.
SOhO Gig with Kenny Edwards & Rich Phillips
-
December 17, 2008
I'm so excited that I'm performing with these two amazing songwriters on Tuesday, 2/3/09 at SOhO, the best music club in SB. Here are the details:
SOhO Restaurant & Music Club presents three local songwriters in concert on Tuesday, February 3rd:
KENNY EDWARDS
Kenny Edwards, an original founder of the Stone Poneys with Linda Ronstadt, performs solo material that ranges from folk pop and Americana to country-soaked blues on guitar and mandolin. His laid-back but powerful instrumental and vocal style has been honed over years of recording and touring with artists like Stevie Nicks, Karla Bonoff, and many others. In addition to national acts, Santa Barbara songwriters also benefit from his skills as a record producer.

CHRISTINA GRIMM
Together with Jack Lee on piano, guitar, and harmonies, Christina Grimm performs a collection of folk-infused pop, rock, and blues from her new CD. “Ranging from soft ‘70s-sounding love songs to blues and folk-influenced tunes, No Time to Be Blue sums up Christina Grimm’s energy and spirit as a performer and songwriter with plenty of passion, sex appeal, and unstoppable spirit (Santa Barbara Independent).

RICH PHILLIPS
Rich Phillips writes beautifully melancholy songs about the emotional journey of loneliness, longing, temptation, love, and its eventual loss. His recent CD release Ordinary Man was produced in Santa Barbara by musical icon Kenny Edwards, who also played on it and added a few harmonies. In addition to tunes from the CD, Rich promises to share some of his most recent songs at this performance.

The New CD Is Ready
-
September 26, 2008
My new CD - No Time to Be Blue - was delivered today. Oasis did a great job on it. I really like the eco-packaging, which also underlines the "green" theme of the CD.
