Thin Line

(Christina Grimm)
THIN LINE
By C.M. Grimm

I found a burned penny
In the ashes of the fire
One side was scorched
The other still was bright
Some trees had vanished
While others stood their ground
A few houses were untouched
The rest had all burned down:

IT’S A THIN LINE
FROM DISASTER TO DELIVERANCE
AND WE DON’T ALWAYS
CROSS THAT LINE IN TIME
IT’S A THIN LINE
FROM DISASTER TO DELIVERANCE
IT’S A THIN LINE, IT’S A THIN LINE
IT’S A THIN LINE

It was like a giant razor
Had shaved the mountainside
The remaining wild creatures
Had no place to hide
Most people got out safely
Two were caught in the flames
Many must start over
Life will never be the same

IT’S A THIN LINE
FROM DISASTER TO DELIVERANCE
AND WE DON’T ALWAYS
CROSS THAT LINE IN TIME
IT’S A THIN LINE
FROM DISASTER TO DELIVERANCE
IT’S A THIN LINE, IT’S A THIN LINE
IT’S A THIN LINE

Oh, Santa Barbara
There are scars across your face
From the raging fires
Of two-thousand and eight

IT’S A THIN LINE, IT’S A THIN LINE
